Chinese Food!!

Updated: Dec 12, 2019

Some of our favorite recipes from Chinese cuisine, some street food included!! :)

When we were all talking about out favorite kinds of Chinese food, the one main thing that we talked about was rice! Personally, my all time favorite food is fried rice! The recipe that is linked above is one of my favorite ways to cook fried rice, I've made this recipe a bunch of times and it's very easy to make and very yummy to eat!

Some Of Our Top Picks!

All of these foods or recipes are things that I either have made myself or have heard very good things about! For a couple of our picks we have recipes attached! I would absolutely recommend trying to work them into one of your next meals!

Deep fried dough sticks

These are exactly what they look like! Deep fried dough sticks, which are a very popular street food found in China! These are fairly simple to make because they do not contain many different ingredients. These are usually eaten with breakfast and they can be paired with milk to drip the dough sticks in. There is one thing that is surprising about these, is that they tase more salty than sweet! They are sprinkled with salt when they are done cooking rather than sugar. These are also eaten as a side dish with porridge and dipped in, in a way they are similar to dipping saltines into your soup!

Chinese Hamburger

This might look familiar to some people, because this is very similar to an American style hamburger. These popular street foods can be found all over China, and they tend to be most popular in Northwest China. These flatbreads are warmed, cut in half and then filled with a delicious pork that has been stewed using many different spices. The bread typically used is naan! Before you get your burger the cook will usually put some gravy into the burger to make everything come together!

Chow Mein

Chow Mein is one of those classic foods you think of when you think of Chinese food! The name comes from Cantonese, chow meaning "fried" and mein meaning "noodles". These fried noodles usually have some sort of protein and veggies mixed in with them! Below is a recipe that I have heard a lot of positive reviews about!

Dumplings

A popular dinner favorite, dumplings are another popular dish in Chinese cuisine! They are wrapped in a thin layer of dough with a lot of different types of fillings. Like the deep fried dough sticks these are another food that can be served as salty or sweet! The most popular fillings tend to be more savory than sweet, usually consisting of some sort of meat mixed with greens and spices! One fun fact about dumplings is that according to legend dumplings were created over 1,800 years ago and they were made to help people warm up from the cold! They were originally filled herbs, chili, and mutton!

Last But Not Least... Dessert!!

Almond Float

These are a very popular summer dessert dish because you can easily add fresh fruit to make it even more refreshing! These remind me of those little fruit cups your mom would pack in your lunch when you were little! But, these are made with gelatin, almond extract, sugar, and evaporated milk! Once the mixture is made, it is then poured into molds to cool and form. After that it is cut into pieces and served, some people can chose to add fresh fruit to make it more refreshing!

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you were able to find some new foods to try!

Happy cooking!

Maddie :)
